The General Skilled Migration Program is designed to attract highly-skilled individuals who have trade or university qualifications. The trade or qualifications can be obtained either in Australia or overseas.
The basic requirements for the Skilled Migration Category of visas are:

Age - You must be under 45 years-old |

English language - You must have suitable English language ability to work in Australia; you may need to undertake English language testing to determine your English language ability |

Qualifications - You must have post-secondary trade or university qualifications and these skills must be assessed by the relevant assessing authority as suitable for the occupation nominated by you from the skilled occupations list, gazetted by the Australian government from time to time |

Recent work experience - The work experience requirement is dependant on the occupation nominated; the work experience must be in paid work in a skilled occupation for a set period of time. |
Skilled Migration is based on points, which are allocated in relation to the basic requirements met by the applicant.
